Awareness of APD and CAS
Thank You for Visiting Our Page and learning about Colton and his journey!
We appreciate you stopping by to learn more about Colton’s journey. Recently, Colton received a new diagnosis: Auditory Processing Disorder. This adds to the list of challenges he faces, each one presenting its own unique hurdles. Colton’s journey is filled with conditions that won't disappear and will require him to put in extra effort to keep pace with his peers.
As a parent, I often find myself reflecting on my own choices and wondering if there was something I could have done differently. I worry about Colton’s future and whether he will overcome these challenges and find success as an adult. While I love him deeply and unconditionally, it’s hard to see him face another invisible obstacle that many others don’t experience.
I am grateful, though, that we have a diagnosis because it means we can access the resources and support he needs. We live in a time where technology provides many tools to help manage these challenges, and I’m hopeful that, with the right support, Colton will thrive.
In addition to Auditory Processing Disorder, Colton is also navigating Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Phonological Speech Disorder, Language Disorder, and Sensory Processing Disorder. These conditions affect nearly every aspect of his daily life, and he works incredibly hard at school to accomplish tasks that others may find easy.
To all the special needs parents out there, I see you and understand your struggles. If you ever need someone to talk to, please feel free to reach out to me.
And to Colton: Mama (and Dad) are so proud of you! You are a hardworking, kind, and intelligent soul. We love you for who you are and believe in your ability to achieve your dreams. Keep reaching for the stars—you’ve got this!
